Alcatraz Island is a small, rocky island located in San Francisco Bay in California. It’s famous for its history as a maximum-security federal prison that once housed some of the country’s most notorious criminals. Today, Alcatraz is a popular tourist attraction and part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
